Jesús Carles De Vilallonga, “Originally from Catalonia, Jesus Vilallonga has nonetheless left his mark on Canadian painting. He settled in Canada in 1955 and, from 1958 onwards, regularly presented exhibitions at the Dominion Gallery, one of the most important galleries in the country, until its closure in 2000. Upon his arrival in Montreal, abstraction was dominant.

Nevertheless, he remains faithful to figurative art. He approaches this figurative style in a highly personal way, particularly inspired by Surrealism. Painted with great finesse, each of his canvases immerses us in a world where the figure is presented through a symbolism that is both sensual and mechanical… His contribution to our painting is considerable.” Robert Bernier.
