Normand Hudon, a great Canadian figurative artist
A great Canadian master, caricaturist, and figurative painter, Normand Hudon was born in Montreal in 1929 (died in 1997). He studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal and the Académie Montmartre in Paris. His works, rich in sober and contrasting colors, are often distinguished by their colorful characters in everyday life (children, judges, sisters, etc.) and scenes from the countryside, working-class neighborhoods, or urban areas (villages, mansions, houses, churches, streets, convenience stores with or without characters, etc.) that allow us a moment of dreaming in the past.
Caricaturist works
"With his caricatures, Normand Hudon achieved fame and glory at the beginning of our television in the 1950s. A seasoned, charismatic, and witty cartoonist, he often made a large audience, always in awe of his prowess, laugh and smile.
His painting stood out at the end of the 1970s. Strongly inspired by his world of caricature, his pictorial work draws on the world of his childhood and that of people in power who were, in some respects, funny… Clergymen, lawyers, judges, politicians were his favorite targets. Each of his paintings was an amused and amusing nod to the little failings of the powerful, sometimes of ordinary people. This perhaps explains why today the interest in his work remains so keen. » Robert Bernier
A Quebec painter, Normand Hudon's works are part of many public and private collections in Quebec, Canada and abroad.
