Guy-Anne Massicotte, an artist of contemporary realist painting
Guy-Anne Massicotte was born in 1968 in Nicolet (Québec). She studied drawing, photography, painting, sculpture and art history at the Université de Sherbrooke and Bishop's, but considers herself mainly self-taught when it comes to oil techniques. She has rigorously studied, with the help of specialized books, the painter's craft in its smallest details. The practical application of these writings as well as the careful observation of works by Masters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Dali, Bouguereau and many ancient and contemporary realist painters allowed her to develop a very personal and unique technique and approach to painting making possible an exceptionally refined and nuanced execution. Guy-Anne Massicotte's work is part of the Contemporary Realist Painting Movement at the International level through her participation in numerous competitions and events.
A search for dynamic balance and harmony
Constantly evolving, her work visits the three traditional poles of realism: still life, interior and exterior scenes as well as the human figure. Natural elements, organic minerals or living beings, are found in all the compositions demonstrating the importance of our connection to the earth, our animal side that does not disappear with all the technologies in which we bathe… Our essence is linked to the earth, whatever we do. Although the starting point of a work is in the observation of reality, the artist is convinced that the only way to obtain a “living” painting in realism is to consider it as an abstraction; that is to say, to see the different elements as a set of coherent forms, to find a unifying harmony in the colors and values and finally, to use the brushstroke for its own richness thus creating a variety of refined textures. Each composition is a search for dynamic balance and harmony. “I am often told that when you are in the presence of one of my works, you physically feel the painted subject…” That is the ultimate goal!
Guy-Anne Massicotte's works can be found in many private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia as well as in the important Loto-Québec Collection. Her works have appeared in Parcours Magazine and in the International Artist Magazine. A member of the International Guild of Realism, she has been selected for several major national and international exhibitions and competitions: Les Femmeuses, Canadian Brushstroke Magazine, International Artist Challenge, Salon International du Art Renewal Center (Glenham, New York), Concours national de peinture de Baie-Saint-Paul, the International FLORAL ART exhibition ~ BLOSSOM II at the Naples Museum of Art in Florida, the International Guild of Realism, Sage Creek Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, etc.
