Gilles Bédard, an impressionist artist
Canadian painter, Gilles Bédard, IAF (Institut des arts figuratifs) was born in Quebec in 1954. Self-taught, he explored different techniques such as pastel, with which he began in portraiture, oil painting, then finally acrylic painting, a medium that serves well the spontaneity of his current approach. Light in all its forms is omnipresent in Gilles Bédard's paintings.
"A rural landscaper, Gilles Bédard expresses nature through harmonies of shimmering colors punctuated by pure tones. Favoring spectacular and plunging perspectives, his landscapes, all in depth, offer themselves to the viewer's gaze with generosity and voluptuousness, with forms that combine splendor and beauty." Robert Bernier
A Quebec impressionist painter
Gilles Bédard is known for his figurative landscapes dazzling with color, brushed with a whimsical, impressionistic touch and imbued with the joy of living. He works by succession of colors, by masses literally thrown on the surface, which gives relief to his works. The sketches are then scraped, brushed and superimposed to bring out the main subjects. Painting for him is not only an immense pleasure, but a vital need: "I see my art as a cry from the heart, as the spontaneous liberation of everything I feel inside me. I love this freedom that creation brings me, and I could not live, as so many others do, in the dreary constraints of everyday life."
A Quebec painter, Gilles Bédard's paintings are part of many public and private collections.
